What’s the best PC upgrade while keeping DDR4 RAM?

I'm looking to upgrade my PC, which currently has an i3-9100f and a GTX 1650 Super, along with 16GB of DDR4 RAM. Given the rising prices of RAM lately, I'd prefer to stick with my existing RAM and storage while aiming for a powerful yet budget-friendly build. Based on my research, I found that a Ryzen 7 5800x (130 euros) paired with an RX 9060 XT (320 euros), plus a motherboard and PSU, would total around 650 euros. This setup should meet my needs for Linux gaming at 1080p and some video editing. I don't require the highest settings; I just need a significant performance boost over my current build, ideally lasting about five years like my current machine did. Any suggestions?

For the latest tech, look at the 12th to 14th gen Intel CPUs. They support both DDR4 and DDR5, depending on the motherboard. A 12700K would outshine the 5800x and gives you the flexibility to upgrade later if you switch boards.

Totally agree! Plus, with the right motherboard, you won’t be limited to just DDR4, which is a nice option for the future.

I had a good experience switching from AM4 to Intel's 1700 series. The 14700k performed excellently even with DDR4 setup. Just make sure to snag a decent B-series motherboard since Z series can be tough to find and pricey. My timings are impressive, and it's smooth at higher frame rates!

Sounds like a smart move! It’s great to hear that you're getting good performance without needing DDR5.

If you're sticking with DDR4, the Ryzen 7 5800x is indeed a solid choice. However, you might want to consider the Intel 14600kf with a DDR4 motherboard too. It could be a great fit for your needs as well!

Honestly, if you're looking for value, the Intel 14600 is the way to go for most users. It slightly outperforms the 5800X3D in gaming and handles heavy workloads better too.

DDR4 is perfectly fine for now, and I’ve noticed prices starting to decline too! Just keep an eye on them; they'll probably drop about 10% more in the future.
