What’s the best way to organize files effectively?

Keeping files organized can be a real hassle, especially once you start accumulating a lot in your folders. I'm trying to improve my process, so I even wrote a small script that sorts my files by type. How do you all tackle the issue of messy folders? Do you use any built-in tools, apps, or just rely on manual organization?

I ditched the complicated folder trees and went for a simpler approach. I keep a few main folders, use consistent naming, and have one 'inbox' folder where everything gets dumped at first. I do a quick weekly review to tidy things up. Searching has gotten so good that just having clear filenames has become more important than a deep folder structure. Your script sounds helpful if it makes things easier, but too much maintenance can be a hassle.

That inbox idea is pretty smart! You're right about not wanting to overcomplicate it. Thanks for the tips!

I had no idea either! It's good to know I'm not alone in this struggle. Just trying to find what works best!
