I'm really fed up with dealing with different file formats like MKV, MP4, VOB, SRT, and ASS when trying to play video and audio on my TV. I want to connect my hard drives to a device that can play all these formats directly on my TV without needing wifi or any kind of online service. Is this feasible? I heard a friend used a Raspberry Pi for this many years ago - is that still a good option?

You might want to consider using Plex. It’s a solid option for managing and streaming your media files. Just keep in mind that it usually requires your PC to be on as a server. But if you install Plex directly on your smart TV, you can access the HD files without the PC being active, which could solve your problem.
If you’re looking for a more straightforward setup, check out media players like Roku or Fire TV. They can handle most file types and are super easy to plug-and-play without any hassle. Plus, they don’t need your PC to be on!
