What’s the best way to remove ants from my computer without opening it?

I just got back from a trip and found a dead bug next to my computer, along with some ants coming out of it. Upon checking inside, it looks like there's a whole ant colony in there! It seems a little unsanitary. I've tried leaving it on, thinking heat might coax them out, but instead, they just moved further up. What can I do to get them out without opening the computer?

You could try something a bit creative! Consider making a setup where your laptop is elevated above a container filled with a borax sugar water mixture. Ants would go down but wouldn’t be able to climb back up. Once they start to drown, you could maybe take the laptop apart later to ensure all remaining ants are removed.

One idea is to put your computer in a large plastic bag, then take an old CO2 fire extinguisher or a soda stream gas bottle, and release the gas into the bag. Seal it up and let it sit—this should kill the ants, and then you can carefully remove them afterwards.

You really need to shut it down and unplug it. While I know you're looking to avoid opening it, the best way might be to open the case, use compressed air or a vacuum to clean out the ants, and then wipe everything down with isopropyl alcohol. This also helps prevent them from coming back!
