What’s the Best Way to Upgrade My Computer’s RAM for Gaming?

I received a prebuilt gaming PC as a gift around two years ago, and I'm finding that it's struggling with more graphics-intensive games. My memory usage often hits around 90%, while everything else is significantly lower. Should I simply upgrade my RAM, or is there something else I might need to do that I just don't understand yet?

To give you the best advice, it'd be great to know your full component list. What CPU, GPU, and how much memory do you currently have?

Make sure to check how many RAM slots you have and how many chips are currently installed. You might have 1 to 4 RAM chips in total. If you have two free slots, it’s a straightforward upgrade! Just as a heads up, if you have two chips already occupying both slots, you will need to replace one or both.

If you can wait a bit, I recommend upgrading your RAM as prices become more reasonable. For gaming, 32GB is generally the sweet spot. I’ve had good luck with Corsair Vengeance RAM in multiple builds. When you're ready to install, just shut down your PC, unplug it, and hold the power button for a few seconds to drain any leftover power. Then, release the clips on your old RAM and take it out. Slot the new RAM in, applying even pressure until it clicks into place. After that, boot up and enable XMP in the BIOS to optimize settings.
