I'm planning to upgrade my SSD since the current one is not cutting it for my needs. I've got a new 2 TB SSD on the way and I'll be giving my old SSD to a friend. Before I do that, I want to make sure to erase all my data on the old SSD and restore it to factory settings. Unfortunately, my BIOS doesn't have a 'secure erase' feature, so I need to do this manually. I heard about Parted Magic, but that's not free. Are there any alternative methods I can use to securely wipe my SSD?

If you're using Windows, you can actually do this pretty easily. Just reformat the SSD, but make sure to uncheck the Quick Format option. This way, it will perform a more thorough erase.

That's a solid method! Quick Format usually just deletes the file system, right? Good to have the extra step.
