I'm curious about the compatibility of the latest graphics cards, specifically the RX 9000 and RTX 5000 series, with older motherboard platforms. What is the oldest generation of motherboards and CPUs that folks have tested these GPUs on? I'm not interested in hearing that it might not be a good idea; I just want to know the practical experiences people have had running these powerful cards on much older hardware.

I haven't tested anything newer than a Z87 motherboard with my 9070 XT, but I did run a 3070 Ti alongside an old Pentium 4 from 2006 without any issues—other than the performance hit, of course! From what I’ve read, the RX 9000 series has dropped legacy BIOS support, which makes it tricky on motherboards older than 2012. I haven't seen much info on the RTX 5000 series regarding compatibility with older boards, though.

That’s interesting! I was mainly thinking about the latest GPUs, but it’s good to know. I wonder if the 9070 XT could be made to work with that old computer somehow? Isn’t legacy BIOS support pretty much gone now?
