What’s Up with My i7-14700K Running So Hot at Idle?

I've just installed a brand new i7-14700K on an NZXT N7 Z790 motherboard along with a DeepCool AK400 Digital cooler, but I'm seeing some seriously high idle temperatures between 70 to 100 degrees Celsius. I'm using stock Antec thermal paste, and I can't find any guides specific to undervolting this board. Can anyone offer advice on how to lower the temps?

It sounds like there might be an issue with how the cooler is installed. Just double-check that you removed the plastic covering over the thermal paste and heatsink. The AK400 might not have the best cooling capacity for an i7-14700K, so that's a concern too, but those temperatures are way higher than they should be. You shouldn’t be idling at 70-100°C.

Those temps are definitely alarming! High temperatures like that can really shorten the lifespan of your CPU. Make sure you've updated your BIOS to the latest version from Intel; they often include important bug fixes. It's also worth checking if the cooler is properly seated and if all CPU fans are connected. I've got a similar setup, and after getting my chip delidded, my idle temps dropped significantly. So maybe consider that too!

Thanks! The cooler is seated correctly, and the fans are spinning fine. I just switched to DeepCool Z5 thermal paste but still no luck. I'll look into updating the BIOS next.

Definitely give the BIOS update a shot—could make a difference!
