Hey everyone! Earlier this year, I upgraded my GPU to a 5070, and it's been great. However, I feel like my current CPU, a 5600x, is holding me back in some games like heavily modded Skyrim, Fallout, and Starfield. I was thinking of upgrading to AM5, but since most of my PC parts are fairly new, I'd prefer not to spend around a thousand dollars on a new CPU, motherboard, RAM, and power supply. Now I'm considering the 5700x3d or 5800x3d, but the used ones seem to be going for nearly $400. Is that typical? I know these chips are pretty popular and out of production, but that price seems steep. Any advice on where I could score one without breaking the bank? Also, would upgrading my CPU impact my PSU's requirements? I'm currently using a 650W power supply and it's working fine, but I'm worried it might not handle the upgrade. Thanks for any insights!

Honestly, at this point, upgrading to an AM4 x3D CPU just doesn’t seem worthwhile given their current prices. These chips are no longer being manufactured, and since demand is high and supply is low, you’re seeing those inflated costs. I’d recommend looking into an AM5 setup instead. You could sell your AM4 components to offset some of the costs, and something like the Ryzen 7600x, plus a new motherboard and RAM, would likely be cheaper in the long run and offer similar performance.
There's even a post about this topic floating around! The consensus is that upgrading your CPU will give you a noticeable performance boost, but paying $300-$400 isn’t really worth it. If you're not seeing a sale, it might be time to just bite the bullet and go for AM5 instead.
You might try AliExpress, but just make sure to do your homework first. Prices for the x3D chips aren't great in general, but you might find something better there if you're patient!
The 5800X3D and 5700X3D are both discontinued now, and prices have definitely shot up because of it. Finding a good deal is tough, but checking out the used market is probably your best bet. Just keep an eye out—good deals do pop up occasionally!
Yeah, these x3D CPUs are discontinued, so the combination of low supply and high demand equals those wild prices. If you can find a used one for a decent price, great, but honestly, going for an AM5 platform would be a smarter decision considering how pricey the AM4 x3D CPUs are right now.

Definitely check it out, but I wouldn’t get my hopes too high. Price comparisons are key—you want to ensure you’re not overpaying again.
