Which CPU is better for gaming: AMD 7700 or 9600X?

I'm putting together a new PC around my 9070XT graphics card, but right now I can't stretch my budget to include an X3D CPU. I'm deciding between the AMD Ryzen 7700 (which has 8 cores) and the 9600X (with 6 cores, which I can get cheaper thanks to some bundle deals). My main focus will be gaming, especially for MH Wilds. I know this game isn't the most optimized, but I'm really eager to play it. So, should I go for the 7700 or the cheaper 9600X?

Just grab the 7700 and tweak the PBO to -30 for some nice performance boost!

I had a similar dilemma and I opted for the 7700. While the 6 core 9600X is better for single-threaded tasks, I believe future games will benefit from having more cores. I haven’t finished my build yet, but the Cinebench results have me excited!

The 7700 is definitely more powerful overall, but it’d be good to know how much cheaper the 9600X is. One plus for the 9600X is that it runs cooler, so that’s something to consider too!

It's about 50 euros cheaper.

7700 is a no-brainer if you're focusing on gaming performance!

For gaming, I'd suggest just going for the cheaper option unless you plan to use it for productivity tasks. The 7700 is better for multitasking, while the 9600X has a slight edge in single-core performance. I picked up my 7700 when I was in China for 250 AUD (which is about 160 USD), and I’ve been really happy with it!

Do you think the 7700 would cause bottlenecks in games, though?

Both CPUs should be fine for gaming. The game you're looking at recommends some Intel and AMD Ryzen 5 options like the 11600K and 3600X. Unless you really need extra cores for specific tasks, the 9600X should still do the job nicely. Just keep in mind that as you go higher in resolution, graphics will take precedence over CPU performance.

Honestly, if it’s just for gaming, pick whichever one is cheaper. Both CPUs will handle gaming quite well, so you can't go wrong with either of them!
