I'm building a new gaming PC after enjoying my time with a PS5. I'm targeting 1440p at 144 Hz, aiming for 70+ FPS in most games. My setup includes 32 GB of DDR5 6000 MHz RAM, a 5070 Ti GPU, and an 850 W power supply. I want a processor that will last 3-5 years primarily for gaming, rather than productivity, and I have a budget of around $2,000. With that $2k budget, I’d recommend the 7800X3D if you can swing it. The 9600X could work if you're looking to save money, but it doesn't really offer much in terms of future-proofing. Intel isn’t the best option if gaming is your main focus because they’re not as power-efficient and generally lag behind in performance.
If you’re set on Intel, the 7600X3D paired with a suitable B850 motherboard would be a solid choice! Just make sure to pick a decent cooling solution as well.
Definitely go for the AMD 5 9600X if you're looking for something solid. If your budget allows, the 9700X is worth considering too. Just a heads up though, I've heard some users mention the Intel 14th gen chips can be problematic, especially with XMP settings. But for gaming, the 9600X generally performs a bit better!
If you're considering the 7600X3D, it's usually around $399 and can be a good choice based on what you’re aiming for in gaming. The 9600X might cover your needs now, but six cores might start to feel limiting in a couple of years. You might even have enough in your budget for the 9800X3D if you're in the USA—just make sure your RAM is indeed CL30 as that’ll help too!

That said, the Ryzen 9000 series has had its issues too, particularly on ASRock motherboards. The Intel chips tend to be stable if paired with a decent BIOS. So if you're leaning towards gaming, the 9600X is usually the way to go, but keep an eye on motherboard compatibility.
