I'm trying to figure out whether to buy the 9070 XT, which is priced at $845, or the RTX 5080 for $1290. The 5080's price is pretty much set at MSRP in my area, meaning it likely won't drop any lower. Meanwhile, the 9070 XT is expected to drop to around $790 soon. I'm building a PC specifically for esports and aiming for high refresh rates at 1440p, so picking the right GPU is really important to me. While I'm leaning towards the RTX 5080, it feels like a steep price when the performance difference isn't huge—around 20% better. I'm also concerned that newer GPUs might make the 5080 less appealing in the future. Would you recommend the 9070 XT over the 5080 considering these prices?

Definitely go for the 9070 XT at the prices you mentioned. You can often find the 9070 XT, especially the Steel Legend model, for about $700, which is a steal! The RTX 5080 is nice, but unless you find it at a better price, it’s probably not worth considering for your needs.
Honestly, I'd choose a 5070 Ti over both of these options. The 5080 is more for 4K gaming and could be overkill for your setup.
The 9070 XT should give you plenty of FPS at 1440p. The 5080 seems more suited for higher resolutions, so it might be more than what you really need.
If the 5080 is flirting with 4090 prices, I'd just go for a used 4090 instead. It offers way more VRAM, which can be crucial, especially with modern games. Just be careful buying used, though!
Exactly! Buying a used card can be risky, especially if you lose warranty. You really don't want a $3000 problem down the line!
