Which GPU Should I Choose for 1440p Gaming with a Ryzen 9 5900x?

I'm currently using a Ryzen 9 5900x and have paired it with 32GB of DDR4 RAM at 3600MHz. Right now, I have a Radeon RX 6600 with 8GB VRAM, but I'm looking to upgrade my GPU for better performance at 1440p. I'm considering the 9060xt with 16GB, the 9070 with 16GB, or the 5070 with 12GB. I mainly play Overwatch, Fortnite, and Minecraft, along with some other esports titles. I want to focus on raw frame rates and smooth gameplay rather than ray tracing performance, and I think that in 2025, having only 8GB of VRAM will be too limiting. My budget is around $600, so any advice on which card would be the best choice would be really appreciated!

I just picked up a 5060 ti 16GB for around $440. It's got GDDR7, which correlates to better bandwidth than a 9060xt. The 4070 also has smoother frame rates, but I missed a deal on that and didn’t want an older card.

From my experience, if you pair a Ryzen 9 5900x with something like a 3080 at 1440p ultrawide, you'd have minimal bottlenecks unless you’re upscaling. A 9070xt might get you similar performance to a 5080, which is worth considering.

Honestly, you've got a great CPU, so I'd say the 9070xt is a solid choice if you can stretch your budget a bit, as it's super capable. But if you're sticking to $600, the normal 9070 is still a big step up from your current GPU.

Yeah, I've seen the 9070xt for about $670 right now. I think if I can manage, I’ll just go ahead and grab it!

You should definitely consider your budget for this. In the rankings, it looks like 9060xt < 5070 < 9070 < 9070xt < 5070ti. For $600, the 9070 is your best bet, but if those 9070xt prices drop a bit, they could be worth the extra.

Exactly! I might just go for the 9070 since it's within my budget right now and it's a solid card.

For the games you mentioned, the 9060XT 16GB would actually be sufficient. Just remember, if you're playing on competitive settings, you might hit CPU limits instead!

That’s what I’ve been thinking too. The prices for the 9060xt are pretty tempting, and I know I'm limited by my CPU, but upgrading that will come next.
