I'm looking to upgrade from my aging 1070 GPU (I know, it's about time!). I live in Canada so my options are a bit limited compared to the US. Here's what I'm considering:
- 9070 XT for about 880 CAD (plus tax)
- 4080 for around 1000 CAD (with no tax)
- 5070 Ti for 1070 CAD (plus tax)
Currently, I'm gaming on a 1440p monitor and plan to eventually upgrade to a 4K OLED in the future. The main games I'm excited about playing once I have the OLED are Alan Wake 2, Baldur's Gate 3, and Cyberpunk 2077. I'm not too picky about frame rates—anything above 40 FPS looks good to me, as long as the frame pacing is smooth.

I'd say go with either the 9070 XT or 5070 Ti. The 5070 Ti has better upscaling, making it a solid choice for running games at 4K with high settings and good frame rates.
If you plan for a 4K OLED and want good ray tracing in games like Alan Wake 2 and Cyberpunk 2077, the 5070 Ti is your best bet. Nvidia’s RT and DLSS can really enhance your gaming experience, giving you better visual quality and smoother frame pacing.
You should also consider the 7900 XTX if it’s available! I initially tried the 9070 XT but ended up sticking with the 7900 XTX. It performs better in most games at 1440p and has 24GB of VRAM for 4K gaming, though it does consume more power.
If gaming is your priority, the 9070 XT is the way to go since it’s cheaper and effective at higher resolutions. But if you’re also interested in AI applications, you might want the 5070 Ti. I just picked up the 5070 Ti for about 1030 CAD for similar reasons.
Considering the games you plan to play, I'd definitely recommend the 4080 for its superior ray tracing and DLSS capabilities. It's part of the older gen, but it's worth it for smoother frame times at your target FPS.
