Which Linux Distribution Should I Choose for Gaming and Creative Work?

I'm planning a clean install of Windows 11 soon, but I'm thinking of finally trying out Linux. I don't really use my PC for work; mostly I mess around with professional software or edit photos and videos for YouTube. Gaming is a big part of my usage, primarily single-player games, though I do play League of Legends with friends occasionally. I'm curious about using Linux for both gaming and my hobby of drawing with a Huion Kamvas 13 tablet—I'd like to know if that works well on Linux. I've heard good things about Nobara and Fedora but want to explore all my options. I'm not new to using a PC but haven't coded before. My experience with Linux is mostly on VirtualBox; I tried Ubuntu years ago but found it not suitable for my needs, and Mint was decent but ultimately confusing. Also, I'm uncertain if I should set up a dual boot since I'm pretty lazy. Here are my specs: Ryzen 5 7600, RTX 5070, 32GB DDR5 5600MHz. Any advice?

If you're considering options other than Mint for stability, I’d recommend Debian or Linux Mint for a solid experience. For something more up-to-date but a bit unstable, try CachyOS or EndeavourOS. These can be more hands-on but have modern software available. You’ll want to learn a bit along the way, though!

I just switched to Cachy after hopping through various distros and it feels great! There’s a good community and extensive documentation to help with any issues. I must say, the speed and security are impressive so far!

I appreciate the heads-up! I’m looking for something fast and user-friendly since I don’t want to get stuck troubleshooting too much. I'll give Cachy a shot!

Regarding your Huion Kamvas 13, some tablets run well on Linux, but it's a good idea to do a bit of research on that specific model to see how it performs. As for dual-booting, I'd suggest it just in case you want to fall back to Windows for gaming like LoL, especially while you test the waters with Linux. It’s always better to have that option!

Thanks for the input! I actually forgot to mention my specific tablet model, Huion Kamvas 13 (2021). It's nice to hear it might work well on Linux. I'll keep that in mind!

Definitely check out the specs and community posts about the Kamvas! Lots of users share their experiences, and you might find tips on getting it set up smoothly.

Linux Mint is definitely a popular choice for beginners, and for good reason! It’s user-friendly and a lot like Windows, making the transition smoother. If you're looking for something stable and ready to go right out of the box, Mint is a solid pick.

I just installed Fedora 43, and it's been great! I can run my office programs, connect to my VPN, and even play Overwatch 2 without issues. I followed a tutorial that really helped with the setup, too. It seems stable and supports gaming well, so it’s worth checking out!
