Which Linux Distribution Should I Choose for My ThinkPad T14?

I have a ThinkPad T14 that comes with a touchscreen and runs on an i5 10th generation processor. While Windows 11 works fine, it feels a bit slow. Since ThinkPads are traditionally known for running Linux, I want to switch to a Linux distribution. I'm a complete novice with Linux but I'm not afraid to use the terminal. I would prefer to set up the system without a default desktop environment. What Linux distribution would you recommend for me?

It's best to begin with popular distros since the community support is a key factor in your experience. You have plenty of options like Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, or OpenSUSE. If you're looking for a challenge, there's Debian or Arch, but those can be a bit more complex, especially for beginners.

Honestly, the biggest factor is what you plan to do with your Linux system. If you're leaning towards using it for specific tasks like network management or video editing, it will help narrow down your choices. Stable options like Debian or Fedora work great, while Void with Gnome is excellent for a cutting-edge experience.

You might want to start with well-known distributions like Ubuntu or Mint. Make sure to check out desktop environments to find one that suits you, then install the distro alongside it. And, remember to back up your data before making any changes! Good luck!

Since you mentioned wanting to install everything manually without a desktop environment, Arch Linux might be what you're after, but it can be tricky. Beginners typically do better with something like Linux Mint or Zorin OS since they come with desktop environments out of the box.
