I'm gearing up to make the switch to Linux and I'm unsure about which distribution to choose. I'm looking for something that's beginner-friendly, perfect for my college needs, and most importantly, super minimalistic. Ideally, I just want the essential applications—I mainly browse the web and play Minecraft, so I don't need much else.

I always recommend Linux Mint with the Cinnamon environment! It's super user-friendly and has a familiar layout for Windows users. You can also visit distrosea.com to compare different options and see what fits your style.

If browsing and Minecraft are your main activities, honestly, almost any distro will work for you. Just check out the desktop environments (DE) because they determine how everything looks and feels. For instance, KDE Plasma and GNOME are popular for their aesthetics; if you like a Windows vibe, try Cinnamon with Linux Mint.

Honestly, if you check out past posts, Linux Mint and Ubuntu always pop up as the top recommendations for newbies looking for simplicity. Mint tends to be the go-to choice for most!

For a minimal Linux experience, I'd recommend starting with Ubuntu, Linux Mint, or Pop OS. They all cater to beginners and have a user-friendly interface. If you want a more lightweight option, look into Xubuntu or Linux Lite instead!

Yeah, I've tried a few of those. But I've heard mixed reviews about Ubuntu's Snap packages, while Mint is praised for its simplicity, especially if you're transitioning from Windows.

Keep in mind, no operating system is truly simple; if you want something hassle-free, a Chromebook might be better. But if you want to dive into Linux, I'd say Ubuntu or Kubuntu could be your best bets, especially if you want a more Windows-like feel.
