I'm looking for a Linux distribution that I can use primarily for light gaming on Steam, but I'd prefer not to rely on Proton. I also want to be able to handle regular laptop tasks easily. Any recommendations?

Check out the distro selection page for guidance! There are many distros that cater to gaming, but since you want to steer clear of Proton, your options will be a bit limited. Just keep in mind that most games on Steam will likely need Proton or Wine to run, so you may want to rethink that part!
If you're avoiding Proton, you might want to stick with Linux Mint for your first time using Linux. It’s pretty user-friendly and has a good selection of native games you can play right away!
Good luck with that! Just be prepared for some challenges since most Steam games on Linux are designed to work with Proton. You might end up needing it after all! Check the list of Linux games for what's available without it.

That makes sense! I guess I’ll have to check out which games are natively supported before deciding.
