I'm looking for a lighter Linux distribution for my Ideapad 5 14ARE05 laptop, which has an AMD Ryzen 3 4300U processor, 8GB of RAM, and an SSD. The main reason I'm making the switch is that Windows 11 feels quite heavy, and even after trying to debloat it, it just doesn't run smoothly. What do you all recommend?

If you're switching from Windows and want something user-friendly, Linux Mint is a popular choice since it keeps the interface familiar. But honestly, I found it a bit bulky. I've switched to Debian with the Xfce desktop, and I love how minimal and stable it is, although it can feel a bit slow. If you want something more modern and customizable, consider trying Fedora with KDE, but keep in mind it might not be as stable.

If you're looking for something lightweight, you could check out Xubuntu or even Debian Trixie with Xfce. For a speed boost, Arch Linux with Xfce is worth considering, but it requires a bit more effort to set up.

That's a bold suggestion! What makes you think Arch is faster than Debian?

What do you plan to use your laptop for? The intended tasks can really help narrow down the best distro for you.

It's important to know a bit about how Linux works: the key parts are the kernel and the command line. Regardless of the distro, the kernel is mainly the same across the board. Much of the difference comes from the desktop environment. If you prefer lightweight setups, options like Xfce or Trinity are good. Look into distros like MX Linux, Q4OS, or even Debian with Xfce. Each one has its strengths depending on what you need.
