Which Linux Distro Should I Choose as a First-Time User?

I've been using Windows for my desktop and I'm considering switching to Linux now that I'm selling my 3090 to get a 9700xt. I'm excited to try Linux as I've always wanted to. My main usage is gaming on Steam and emulating games with Eden. I'm not a stranger to the command prompt—though I haven't used it much in Windows—but I love to tinker and learn new things! My system has an i5 14th Gen 14600kf processor, but I'm aware there might be some GPU issues with NVIDIA cards, so I'm looking for the best advice on which distro to start with.

Another option could be Zorin OS. It has a visually appealing interface for Windows users transitioning to Linux and is fairly easy to set up, making it a good candidate for your first distro.

I suggest you consider MX Linux. It’s known for good performance, has a fantastic system management toolbox, and great documentation for beginners.

If gaming is your focus, CachyOS could be a perfect fit. It's Arch-based, which means great performance for gaming, plus you can learn about Linux as you go. Just keep in mind that it works a bit differently from what you're used to!

If you're new to Linux, I'd recommend starting with Linux Mint (Cinnamon). It's user-friendly and works well out of the box, making the transition from Windows pretty straightforward.
