Which Linux Distro Should I Choose for Gaming?

I'm planning to switch from Windows 11 to Linux because I'm just fed up with things, and I'm curious about which distribution I should go for. I've heard about popular options like Ubuntu, Debian, and Arch, but I'm wondering if there are other distros I should check out. My main focus is gaming on titles that officially support Linux, and I'm also into game development with Unreal Engine 5 and Blender. By the way, my PC has an i9 11900k processor and an NVIDIA 3080 Ti GPU, so I'm hoping for something that runs smoothly on that setup.

For gaming, you need to consider hardware support and timely updates. I would avoid Debian and Ubuntu since they might lag on updates. Arch can be a bit much for beginners, so consider rolling releases like openSUSE or Fedora. If you want something simpler to start with, Bazzite (a Fedora derivative) might be good.

Basically, you can't go wrong with most Linux distros, but I'd suggest looking into the desktop environment you want as that will make customizing easier. Since you have an NVIDIA GPU, you'll want to ensure you use their proprietary drivers—some distros come with them pre-installed like PopOS and Nobara.

Check out the distro selection page on the wiki for detailed comparisons! It's also a great idea to experiment in a virtual machine so you can play around without making permanent changes. And Smokey's tip—always back up your data and test commands before hitting Enter!
