Which Linux Distro Should I Choose for My Laptop?

I'm new to Linux and I'm trying to decide which distribution to install on my laptop. Here are my laptop specs: HP Victus 15 with an i5 12450H, Nvidia Geforce RTX 3050 Mobile, and 16GB of RAM. I previously tried Pop!_OS but ran into some issues with suspend mode and drivers. I'm considering switching to Ubuntu. I aim to use Linux primarily for daily tasks like web browsing and document management, web development and programming, college work, and some light gaming. Any recommendations for a more stable and compatible distro with my hardware would be greatly appreciated!

When selecting any distro, keep in mind that you'll need to do some setup, especially with a laptop not specifically validated for it. You might as well go for a distro you like and tweak it to fit your hardware. Usually, CPU, GPU, and RAM setups aren't too complicated, and tweaking can enhance performance significantly.

I'd suggest either Linux Mint or Fedora. Just a heads-up, driver issues could potentially be related to the Kernel and not the distro specifically. There are also user fixes out there, especially for laptops.

Go for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS! It's very user-friendly, supports NVIDIA GPUs well, and is fantastic for daily use, development, and light gaming. Just be aware that some HP Victus models can have suspend/resume issues. You can find a detailed installation guide on the official Ubuntu site, which should help you out.

What type of web development stack do you plan to use? Some software may not run well on Linux, so consider that when making your choice. If your primary development tools don't work on Linux, sticking with Windows for those tasks might be necessary.

I'd recommend Linux Mint 22.2, especially the Cinnamon edition. It's user-friendly and great for general use.
