I'm diving into cybersecurity and currently have Kali Linux running on a VM on my Mac. I've also got an old Dell Inspiron laptop (5th gen with an i3 CPU and 4GB of RAM) that I just upgraded to a 128GB SSD. I'm eager to install a Linux distro on it, but I'm not sure which one would be best suited for its hardware capabilities.

If you're focused on cybersecurity, Kali Linux is definitely the way to go for tools and penetration testing. But if you're looking for something more suited as a daily driver, any modern distro should work fine, though your laptop might appreciate some extra RAM for smoother performance.
Kali should run okay on your laptop, especially with that SSD. Just keep in mind it’s more specialized for security tasks. If you're planning on regular use, Mint or Ubuntu could be better all-around choices.
I’ve got a similar laptop, the Inspiron 5558, and I'm using Linux Mint with no issues. It's a solid choice for older hardware, easy to use, and can handle everyday tasks well. You might want to give it a try!
You could also run Kali on that laptop, but as a daily driver, a lighter distro might serve you better. Just ensure you've got enough RAM for multitasking without lag.

Does Mint work smoothly for you? I've heard good things.
