I recently built a new PC with a 9800x3d, a 5090 GPU, and 64GB of DDR5-6000 RAM, along with two NVMe M.2 drives—one Gen 4 and one Gen 3. I previously had an Asrock Nova board that ended up frying my CPU (thankfully, AMD replaced it). I also tried the MSI MAG Tomahawk, but it gave me a lot of problems, likely due to the faulty CPU I didn't realize I had at the time. Now, I'm researching which X870E motherboard I should get since I've seen tons of complaints about issues with every brand. MSI has cold boot problems, while Gigabyte and Asus are facing memory and BIOS instability. I'm looking for a reliable motherboard with minimal reported issues and suggestions for managing PCIe lane sharing. Which board is highly recommended right now?

I've been using the MSI X870E Tomahawk with my 9800x3d, and it's been working perfectly—no complaints at all. I haven't even bothered to update the BIOS since August 2025. I don’t use sleep mode, though; I just turn off my PC when I'm done, and it boots straight to the desktop in about 30 seconds.
The MSI Tomahawk was my favorite non-ASRock choice too! I also think that if you disable sleep mode and avoid powering off too much, you might sidestep a lot of those issues.
Honestly, both the MSI and Gigabyte B850 or B850E boards, along with their X870E counterparts, are generally solid options. You shouldn’t run into too many issues with them.
I opted for MSI with my 9850x3d setup and made sure to update the BIOS right away. In my opinion, Asus boards are the ones to avoid. I've been hearing too many stories about dead CPUs after waking from sleep mode—many people just left their PCs for a bit and came back to find them unresponsive. Disabling sleep mode might help; it’s something I did.
I've had the Gigabyte X870 Stealth for a couple of weeks now, and I haven't encountered any issues so far—everything has been running smoothly.

Honestly, it seems like they have the most reports about problems after sleep mode, which can lead to some dead CPUs. Just being cautious!
