Why Am I Getting So Many Verification Codes After Getting a New Phone Number?

I recently switched to a new phone and phone number about three weeks ago, and since then, I've been bombarded with verification codes from companies like Amex, Amazon, and Shop. I'm not sure what's happening or how to stop these messages. Can anyone explain this situation?

I've been through the same thing! I got a new number and was flooded with spam calls and texts. It was so annoying that I ended up getting a completely different number again. If it keeps bothering you, consider contacting your carrier and asking for a different number. It worked for me.

Ok thanks for the suggestion!

It sounds like your new phone number might have belonged to someone else before you got it. Numbers can get recycled, and sometimes they come with the previous owner's lingering accounts and verification codes. Honestly, it's frustrating, but there’s not much you can do besides complaining to your carrier about it.

Ok I will see what they say.

Definitely don’t respond to those codes if you didn’t request them. It's a good idea to block them and reach out to your carrier for help. Just be safe and avoid clicking any links you might receive. They can be malicious.

Yes, I’ve just been responding to them by saying stfu and blocking them. It feels good!
