I've been experiencing a message that says "Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network" while searching on Google. I'm using an iPhone 15 with Safari, and this has happened a couple of times this week. I'm not using any VPN or Private Relay, and it showing up when I'm on my home Wi-Fi (which is at a friend's house) or on my mobile network. I'm starting to wonder if my phone might be infected, but everything seems normal otherwise. Is this something common? I've found that simply closing the tab and opening a new one makes it go away.

I get this occasionally too when I’m using mobile data, but rarely on my own Wi-Fi. It could just be Google thinking there's unusual activity from your IP. It can happen if you're searching for too many things too quickly.
It sounds like your friend's Wi-Fi might have some malware that's causing this issue. Google throws up that message when it detects a lot of traffic from a single IP address. Have you checked if they have a VPN set up at their place? Also, your mobile carrier might be to blame since phones can switch between Wi-Fi and data easily.
I’ve dealt with that warning before, and it’s not always malware. Here are a few reasons it might happen:
1. Too many searches in a short time can trigger it.
2. Being on a shared network can also cause this, like in schools or apartment complexes.
3. Sometimes a VPN or misconfigurations can lead to excessive traffic detection.
4. Older software or extensions might add to the confusion too.
In my case, clearing the cache helped a lot!
