Why Am I Not Getting Interviews as a DevOps Engineer Anymore?

I've been a DevOps engineer for 9 years and have always found it easy to land roles. Recently, after moving into DevSecOps in my last position and updating my resume, I've noticed I'm suddenly not getting any interview calls. My CV has 90% DevOps experience and 10% security skills, so I thought that would be an advantage. I'm reaching out to DevOps leads to understand what you're looking for when reviewing a CV. I have experience with multi-cloud environments, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, GitHub, ArgoCD, Python, Prometheus, and the ELK stack. Also, do you think the shift to DevSecOps is hurting my chances?

I can relate; the nature of DevOps roles seems to have shifted lately. Now they often feel like limited platform management rather than integrating development and operations. It’s not what the role used to represent.

The job market is pretty rough right now; it’s not just you. Many people are facing long stretches of silence from employers. I left my job recently expecting to jump back in easily, but it took me six months to find a new role, and I've faced tons of rejections. Companies are scheduling a lot of interviews but then ghosting. You're definitely not alone in this situation!

Keep in mind that many companies are now using AI to screen resumes, which means you need to optimize your CV for keywords. If your resume doesn’t hit the right terms related to DevOps, it might not pass the initial review.

It might just be a temporary downturn in the market. How long has it been since you started not hearing back? If it's only been a few weeks, you may just need to keep applying. There are a lot of roles out there, but the competition is fierce.

I think the term 'DevSecOps' might be working against you. Hiring systems often look specifically for 'DevOps,' and many might not recognize the value in the security expertise you're bringing. Consider leaning back into the more recognizable terms to get noticed.
