Why Are My 3080 Ti Fans Going Crazy at 80°C?

I recently upgraded from a 2080 Super to a Zotac 3080 Ti, and I've noticed that whenever the temperature hits 80°C, the fans become really loud and ramp up unexpectedly. I've tried adjusting the fan curves in Afterburner and tinkering with fan settings, even attempting to undervolt the card. It feels like my fans might be malfunctioning, or maybe I'm missing something in adjusting the fan speeds. I'm not keen on going the water cooling route since it would mean buying a new case and all that jazz. Although I know daisy chaining isn't ideal, new cables are on the way. Any suggestions?

Yeah, hitting 80°C is definitely on the higher side, which is why your fans are ramping up. It's important to keep an eye on the memory junction temperature too, especially under load. I've had a 3080 Ti (the Founders Edition), and while it did run warm, it didn’t go that hot. Maybe check your case airflow too, since that can significantly impact your GPU's temperatures. Also, Nvidia’s boost algorithm starts throttling performance at around 65°C, so you're potentially losing some performance there. If the card is secondhand, reapplying thermal paste might help with cooling!

I have an NZXT H510 as well, and I know it can get a bit warm inside. Redoing the thermal paste can definitely help improve thermal performance, which may reduce the need for your fans to ramp up as much. As for checking memory temps, you can use tools like GPU-Z or MSI Afterburner to monitor that information.
