I have a primary monitor and a secondary one, and I'm trying to set them up using both an HDMI cable and a DisplayPort cable. They both support connections via either cable, but it seems like they only want to work with their designated cables—the main monitor only connects with HDMI, while the second monitor wants DisplayPort. I've played around with the settings but haven't had any luck switching them. I can't swap the cables since the DisplayPort cable is too short for the second monitor's setup. What can I do to resolve this?

This sounds less like a settings issue and more like a possible quirk with the cables or ports. I'd recommend testing each cable with both monitors to see if one might be faulty. Also, double-check your GPU for additional HDMI/DisplayPort connections—sometimes a different port works better. If distance is a concern, you might need to get a longer cable or an active adapter to make it work.
Have you checked if Windows is set to display only one monitor? A quick fix could be to press Windows + P, which will bring up display options like extending your display or duplicating it.
I can't see either monitor showing up with that! It seems like they keep getting locked to the cable that's not even plugged in. Before I swapped the cables, everything was working fine.

I actually rebooted my PC, and that did the trick! It seems like it just needed a refresh to switch which port it was using.
