Why Are My JBL Headphones Sounding Muffled on My Chromebook?

I'm having trouble with my JBL 660 bluetooth headphones when I use them with my school Chromebook. The audio sounds muffled when I visit certain websites, and even after disconnecting and reconnecting, the sound issue persists. The only way I can seem to fix it is by restarting my Chromebook, which is super annoying. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might resolve this?

It sounds like your headphones might be connecting in headset mode, which could lower the audio quality like an old phone call. This mode uses mono audio and a low sample rate. If that's the case, you might want to check your settings or try reconnecting your headphones differently.

That would make sense since it sounds like what happens when I talk on the phone while listening to music. Is there a way to fix this?

Your Chromebook might have a high-audio level limiter, especially if it’s a school device. You should check with your school's IT department to see if there are any restrictions on audio settings.

Huh, I didn't know that. Thanks for the heads up!

Have you tried using a different pair of headphones? If those work fine, then it might be an issue with your JBL headphones. But if the problem happens with both, then it could point to a Chromebook issue.

Got it, sounds like a good idea, thank you!
