Why Are My Website Downloads So Slow Compared to Steam?

Asked By TechSavvyPenguin42 On

I've noticed that when I download things from websites, the speed drops significantly to as low as 500 KB or even 1 MB/s, while my downloads from Steam hover around 60-70 MB/s. I've tried using a download manager called 'Free Download Manager,' but the speeds stay the same. I'm on a Windows 11 PC and I'm looking for help to resolve this issue!

It's common for download speeds from websites to vary a lot. The server hosting the file might not be able to send data as fast as your connection can handle. You could try checking if your browser has any extensions that may slow down downloads. Clearing your browser's cache might also help speed things up!

Yeah, and make sure to try a different browser too. Sometimes a simple switch can improve your speeds.

Also, consider checking your network settings. Sometimes having too many devices on the same Wi-Fi can hog the bandwidth. If you're using Wi-Fi, try switching to a wired connection if possible—it could make a big difference!
