Why Can’t I Access Steam on My Computer?

I've been having trouble with Steam on my new computer. It suddenly stopped detecting my internet connection, even though other applications and browsers work fine. I tried disabling my firewall just for Steam, but it didn't help. Out of frustration, I followed a YouTube video to delete Steam from my files, including all my games. Now when I attempt to visit Steam's website to reinstall it, I keep getting a 'site cannot be reached' error, although I can access other sites. I even found Norton antivirus on my computer, which I didn't install myself, and I uninstalled it. I'm really stuck and not sure what to do next. Any advice?

If your browser settings are preventing access, try clearing your DNS cache. You can do this by opening the Command Prompt as an administrator and typing 'ipconfig /flushdns'. This might help resolve any routing issues.

Make sure that your PC isn't in S mode, which can restrict app installations and internet access. Sometimes issues can stem from that. Just a quick check might save you some hassle!

Have you tried connecting to Steam using another device on the same Wi-Fi network, like your phone? If you can access it on your phone but not on your computer, then the issue might be with your computer. But if you can’t access it on either device, it may be a problem with your router or your internet service provider. Another thing to consider is that sometimes, due to legal issues, Steam might block access from certain regions. It could be worth checking that out too.

I can still access it well with other devices.

It sounds like it could be parental controls affecting your access. If you're sharing the internet with someone, they may have set restrictions on your router settings to block certain apps like Steam. You could check with them to see if that's the case.
