I'm currently a trainee in IT and I've stumbled upon an odd issue with changing my password. Each time my password expires, I can get to the stage of entering my old and new passwords, but when I try to actually change it, I get a message saying I don't have authorization. I'm using a normal user account and don't have admin access, but I can access Active Directory (AD) and Domain Controller (DC) through my trainer. I usually ask my trainer to help me change my password, and that works fine, but I'd really prefer to do it myself. I've searched for solutions but only find information about people who can't see the change password screen or aren't allowed to change their password, which isn't the case for me. Can anyone shed some light on why this might be happening?

Another thing to consider is when you’re attempting to change your password. Are you trying to do it right when it expires, or do you wait until the warning appears a few days prior? Sometimes waiting might make a difference in how the system processes your account changes.
It sounds like you might be encountering a permissions issue. Have you checked with your trainer to see if the 'user cannot change password' setting is checked in the Active Directory settings for your account? It should be unchecked for you to change your password on your own. Also, it might help to look at the event logs on your domain controller for any errors that pop up during the password change attempt.
Have you tried changing your password a few days before it actually expires? If you're getting the authorization error right at expiration, it might not allow changes until after the system updates. Your trainer should also be able to see if there are any discrepancies with your account in AD.
