Why Can’t I Get My RAM to Run in Dual Channel?

I'm having a tough time getting my RAM to work in dual channel mode. I have a G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB Series 48GB (2 x 24GB) DDR5 8200 setup with an MSI MPG Z790 EDGE TI MAX WIFI motherboard and an Intel Core i9-14900K CPU. It seems like whenever I try to use both RAM sticks, it won't boot. If I downclock one stick, it works fine, but at the high frequencies, it just fails to boot. Is there anything I can do to fix this or have I made a mistake in my setup?

Have you tried updating your motherboard's BIOS? That can sometimes fix RAM compatibility issues. Also, make sure you're installing the sticks in the correct slots—try using A2 B2 or A1 B1 with XMP turned off just to test it out. If nothing works, you might want to reach out to support for the RAM sticks or consider trying a different brand altogether.

It's great that both sticks work fine individually! Just remember that sometimes memory sticks can be finicky, especially if they're dual rank. Aiming for 6400 MHz can actually be a reasonable target here, so don't get discouraged. Keep experimenting with the slots and settings!

Getting 8200 MHz stable with a Raptor Lake setup can be tricky, especially on boards with 4 memory slots. You should still be able to run at lower speeds. If one stick works fine on its own, try testing both sticks one at a time in other slots to see if they’re both good. If they work alone but not when paired up, the problem might be with your motherboard or CPU.
