Why Can’t I Get the Solution Architect Title I Deserve?

I've been working in tech for six years, and during my last three jobs, I've essentially been doing the work of a solution architect. My role has involved collaborating with stakeholders, designing solutions, and actually building them. For example, I created systems that managed millions of requests—one even handled 100 million requests a month, all on a single server. Despite these achievements, my official title remains 'senior full stack developer', and I've been told I need more experience to be recognized as a solution architect. It's frustrating to see that even in an era where we can learn quickly, people still seem to judge qualifications based purely on years of experience. Am I wrong to feel upset about this?

Honestly, you can add whatever title you want to your resume. Just remember, if it's not recognized internally, it might not carry weight. Titles can be flexible, especially if they don't reflect your actual work. Focus on showcasing your skills and the impact you've made—those are what really count.

From what you describe, it sounds like you're doing everything a senior should do, including stakeholder management and system design. Have you thought about having a sit-down with your manager? It could help to clarify where you stand and what steps you need to take to officially get the title you aim for.

It seems you have a lot on your plate, working directly with C-level executives and investors. It might be worth discussing the title with your manager and seeing if there's any path forward for you to get the recognition you feel you deserve. A title can open doors!

It might be helpful to have a subtitle for your role on your resume, like 'Senior Full Stack Engineer - Specializing in Architecture and Scaling.' This way, if someone checks your background, they see the whole scope of your expertise and contributions!

I hear you! The title 'solution architect' does feel a bit vague and varies from place to place. I'd say, as long as you're getting paid fairly and enjoying your work, that's what matters most. Don't linger on titles too much.
