Why can’t I receive texts from iPhone users?

I've got a bit of a puzzler here. I have a Samsung Galaxy S20, and I've been trying to text a friend who has an iPhone. Oddly enough, they get my messages without any hitch, but I don't receive any texts they send me unless we're in a group chat together. It's not an issue with anyone else I know who has Android; they all seem to be receiving texts just fine from their iPhone friends. So, is there some setting I'm missing that could fix this? It feels like the problem is somehow linked to my number, possibly because of the iMessage system, but I'm not quite sure how to resolve it. Just to wrap it up: no iPhone user can successfully send me a message in a personal chat, only group texts work. By the way, I managed to fix this by deregistering my number from iMessage since it was previously used with an iPhone.

Definitely check under the "I no longer have an iPhone" section on Apple’s deregistration page. But also remember to see if this is happening with RCS (Rich Communication Services) messages too. Sometimes, that can also cause hiccups with text delivery between devices.

I haven’t used an iPhone with this phone number, so I don’t think that’s the issue for me.

Sounds like a classic issue with iMessage. If your number was registered with iMessage before, it may still be linked to it, which can cause this kind of problem when texting Android devices. You might want to check those links I found that explain how to deregister your number from iMessage. Here’s one just in case: https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage/ . It should help you receive texts from iPhone users properly!

I had a similar issue before! Make sure you follow the steps thoroughly, and it should work out.
