I'm having trouble renaming folders at the root of my shared directory. I can easily rename subfolders without issues, but when I try to change the name of a folder right at the root, I get a message saying I should notify the owner of that folder. Do I need to be the owner to rename it? I'm confused as to why the same rule doesn't apply to subfolders. Just to clarify, the share permissions are set to full control, and the NTFS permissions are also set to "full control" for this folder as well as its subfolders and files. Is there something I'm missing here?

It sounds like you might be trying to rename a folder on a remote share, right? If that's the case, keep in mind that you can't rename the root directory of a remote share directly. You can only rename the folders you can access within that share.
Exactly! You can rename subfolders like you said, but the top-level folders have restrictions based on ownership or permissions. It's best to ensure you have full rights over that specific folder.

Yeah, I think the confusion comes from the terms "root" and "folder within the root." This issue usually happens when the folder you're trying to rename is directly under the main shared folder, but it's not the share itself.
