Why can’t I set my monitor to 165Hz at 1080p resolution?

I've got a 1080p monitor that supports 165Hz, but whenever I try to select that refresh rate, Windows changes the resolution to 1680x1050. If I switch back to 1080p, it automatically drops the refresh rate to 60Hz. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

I’m using an HDMI 2.0 cable, and it should support those settings. Just make sure that your monitor and graphics card are both set up correctly for 165Hz. Sometimes the right settings can get overlooked.

Are you connecting your monitor using HDMI? If you are, try switching to a DisplayPort connection instead. It often handles higher refresh rates better than HDMI, especially if you're using a high refresh rate monitor.
