Why Can’t My PC Detect My External Hard Drive and Why Can’t I Access BIOS?

I'm having a frustrating issue where my PC is unable to recognize my external hard drive. Initially, when I plugged it in, it was detected as drive H, but then my computer froze, causing file explorer to crash. After that, I couldn't access the start menu or my toolbar, and my desktop went completely black. When I tried to log out using Ctrl+Alt+Del, it got stuck in a 'Logging In' loop, so I had to do an emergency shutdown.

After restarting, my PC wouldn't boot properly; my second monitor showed just a single underscore, and nothing happened. I tried unplugging the external hard drive and then rebooted, and everything came back to normal.

However, when I plugged in the external HD again, the computer wouldn't detect it at all, even in disk manager. Strangely enough, it works fine on my Macbook. I've read that this might relate to USB settings in the BIOS. But here's the kicker: I can't access the BIOS at all. I've tried multiple keyboards and even game controllers, but nothing is recognized there. They all work fine during a normal OS boot, just not in BIOS. I'm really lost because I've successfully used this hard drive on this machine many times before. Any thoughts on what could be going on?

Have you thought about resetting your BIOS settings? That might help with your detection issue. Also, make sure to check if there’s a BIOS update available for your motherboard.

How am I supposed to reset or update the BIOS if I can't even get in there?
