Why Can’t My RAM Clock Go Above 3000MHz?

I'm having an issue with my RAM where it won't exceed 3000MHz, even though I have a 3600MHz kit. Whenever I try to set it to 3600, my PC fails to boot, and it defaults back to 3000MHz. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips to help me get it to run at the intended speed?

That B350 board is getting pretty old, so it might be limited to 2933MHz as the maximum supported RAM speed. Just something to keep in mind as you look for solutions!

You should check the model number of your RAM in the BIOS first. It’s possible you might not have the kit you think you do. Also, many AM4 CPUs don’t officially support 3600MHz, so it’s worth confirming your CPU's specifications before trying to overclock.

Just a heads up, running RAM faster than 2666MHz can be considered overclocking, and there's no guarantee it will work perfectly, so keep that in mind as you troubleshoot.

It sounds like your motherboard might be the limiting factor here. If it only supports speeds up to 3200MHz, you have a couple of options: either stick with the 3000MHz or dive into manual memory overclocking. Just keep in mind that you'll need to tweak the voltage and timings to potentially get it to 3200MHz manually.

Just to add, I have an ASRock B350M and a Kingston 3600 kit as well, and I ran into a similar situation. You might want to look into whether your motherboard specifically allows for higher speeds or not.
