Why can’t my roommate and I connect to the same gaming server?

My roommate and I recently moved in together and are trying to play some games online. The issue is that when we're both connected to our router via Ethernet cables, we get kicked off two specific games. Other games work perfectly fine for us individually, with no lag and ping rates around 40-50. Interestingly, when my roommate connects to his hotspot, we can play together without any problems. Can anyone help us figure out what's going on?

Are you using separate Ethernet cables directly to the router? Avoid any Ethernet splitters since they can cause issues. Make sure you’re both connected directly to the router, just to be safe.

What helped me with similar issues in CoD was port forwarding. Some games require specific ports to be open to function properly. You can try enabling the guest network on your router to separate your connections. It made a big difference for me!

It might be that certain games are booting you both because they see two connections from the same IP address. I've had similar issues with games before where it flagged me for using a dual connection. What games are you trying to play?

We're having trouble with Forza Motorsport and Rainbow Six Siege. I've played Siege on the same network with someone else before without issues, but it seems tricky now.
