Why can’t we join external meetings in Teams anymore?

I've been encountering a frustrating issue where Teams is suddenly not allowing us to join external meetings. When trying to connect, I get a message saying, 'the account you're using doesn't have access to this meeting,' even though we're logging in with the accounts that received the invites. This has happened twice this morning with meetings from different domains. I've checked all settings and everything seems to be set correctly on our end. Has anyone else run into this problem? Additionally, a colleague from the same organization was able to join a meeting with a different client without any trouble, and I had another meeting on a separate Teams account with a different external domain that also worked fine. It appears this issue is happening randomly for some others too.

It sounds like the problem might not be on your side. If you're able to join some meetings without issue, it could be specific to the meeting settings or permissions of the hosts. Have you confirmed if the hosts have recently changed any access settings for their meetings?

Doesn't seem like it. The dial-in codes worked for me. I have another meeting shortly using a different Teams account with a third domain. Hoping that one goes smoothly!

I think I'm experiencing something similar, so you're definitely not alone in this. Seems like it might be a wider issue.

We faced this yesterday too. The unusual part was that two people from the same organization could join without a hitch, but three others couldn’t. It felt like a strange bug. Fortunately, we have Zoom as a backup just in case!

Are you having trouble with all external meetings or just certain ones? If the meeting host has restrictions set to exclude external participants, then you won't be able to join. It’s worth checking with them to see if anything’s changed on their end.

The first meeting was with a company we've been working with for weeks, and the second was with a trusted vendor we speak to regularly. It seems unlikely they would change settings without notice, especially since we've had no issues before.
