I've received two calls today from a private number. After doing some research, I found another private call from the same number listed from last year. Is it possible that these are from the same number, or is my phone just grouping all private calls together? For reference, I'm using a Samsung S8. Thanks for any tips!

If they didn't leave a voicemail, it’s tough to say for sure. This could be a spammer, a wrong number, or even someone you know just messing around. Unfortunately, without more info, it could be any number of reasons.
Private numbers can vary, so it’s hard to tell if it's the same one calling you. The best bet is to check if they left any voicemails. If they didn’t, there's really no way to know.
Yeah, all private numbers get lumped together in your call history. There’s no way to tell them apart since their IDs are masked. It’s just a placeholder for calls with no caller ID.
Honestly, private numbers are just a way to indicate that the caller's ID is hidden. Your incoming call logs can’t really separate them, so it’s impossible to tell if they’re the same or not.
Just so you know, anyone can call from a private number. If I had your number, I could easily make a call where my ID would show as private, too.

That makes sense! It really could be anyone then.
