Why Did My Laptop Suddenly Lose WiFi?

I was using my laptop without any issues, and suddenly I lost WiFi connectivity. I checked, and it doesn't show any available WiFi networks anymore. I even restarted my laptop to see if that would help, but no luck. I wondered if I accidentally enabled airplane mode, but that didn't fix anything either. Is there a chance my laptop's WiFi is completely broken?

If you're comfortable with tech, consider booting from a Linux live USB. It helps test if your WiFi works without messing with your laptop's settings. If you can see networks and connect through Linux, then we might be looking at a software issue on your current setup. If you're using Windows, be sure you've removed any wireless adapter drivers and restarted your laptop to allow it to auto-detect them again, which might also help if you need specific drivers from the manufacturer.

First off, did you mean to say you restarted your laptop instead of your WiFi? No worries if that's the case! Check your device manager to see if your WiFi card is listed—if it's there and shows any errors, a driver update might be necessary. Sometimes, reseating the WiFi card can help, especially if your laptop is a bit older.

So you're saying the WiFi card could be fried? Ugh, I guess that makes sense since I'm using an 8-year-old laptop running Windows 10.

Have you checked if other devices can see your WiFi network? You might want to look into how your internet connection is set up at home. If you have both a modem and a router, testing other devices like phones or tablets could help narrow down the problem. If those devices can't connect either, restarting the modem/router could solve the issue. Just make sure to rule out your internet connection at home first before trying more complicated fixes.

Good point! I'll check other devices. If they're fine, I'll try resetting the router.
