I tried to connect a USB-C microphone to my PC, which only has USB-A ports. After plugging it in, my PC shut off completely. I thought it might have been a power issue, so I tried it twice. Could there be something wrong with my PC?

It sounds like there might be an issue if your PC is shutting down like that. It could be a driver or DLL conflict causing the shutdown. It's definitely not normal behavior for a working PC.
One possibility is that the USB port could be shorting out, and your PC is shutting down to protect itself. Have you tried the mic on a different device to see if it works? I had a similar situation with a working camera. It only turned off my PC when plugged into the back of the motherboard, but it worked fine on the front panel. I recommend avoiding that USB port and getting a USB-A to USB-C adapter if you need to use your mic.

I connected my mouse to that port instead, and it worked just fine, but the mic didn't. Might it still be the port?
