Hey everyone,
I've got a hardware issue with my Brother MFC-J6530DW printer. For years, it was hard wired to my PC without any problems. I occasionally connected it to my laptop using USB when I needed to print, but recently, I got an error message: "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)". Now, it seems like the USB port on the printer itself is the issue since everything else works fine with Wi-Fi or Ethernet. I haven't physically messed with the USB port aside from plugging in the cable occasionally.
What could have caused this sudden failure? I'm not a hardware expert, just a software support analyst, so any help would be appreciated!
Just to note, I've tried a bunch of troubleshooting steps:
1. Different A/B USB cables
2. Various USB ports on my PC
3. Another PC
4. Different USB ports on that second PC
5. Uninstalling the device via Device Manager
6. Downloading drivers directly from Brother.
Every attempt still gives me the same error. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried using a different USB port on your laptop as well? Sometimes, the issue can be with specific ports, even if that sounds odd. But since you mentioned it gives the same error on another PC, it does lean towards the printer's port being the problem. It's particularly odd that you haven't physically touched it much, which makes you wonder about manufacturing defects or just age.
It sounds like you've done a lot of great troubleshooting! Since you still get the error even on different PCs, it really does sound like the USB port could be faulty. It's strange that it just happened out of nowhere without physical strain. Sometimes internal components can fail due to age or electrical issues, even if you haven't used the port often. Have you considered connecting via Wi-Fi or Ethernet for now? It may not solve the problem, but it could get you back to printing while you figure out the USB issue.
