Hey everyone,
I've been having a tough time with hard drives. A few years back, I had a 1TB HDD that started acting up and eventually became unusable. I replaced it with a 2TB HDD, and while it was working fine for a while, I just faced some major issues with it too. About a week ago, I noticed that around 400GB of content got corrupted. Windows changed the file name to something random, and even though the files are technically still there, I can't access them. I've tried fixing it with the chkdsk command, but it took forever and I'm not sure if the drive can be salvaged.
I've checked my cables and everything seems fine, plus I don't think my RAM is the issue either. I was contemplating getting an SSD as a new storage solution, but I'm worried it might experience similar issues. Is this a good move? Any advice on why my HDDs keep failing would be much appreciated!

It could be a power supply issue affecting your drives, but if there aren’t obvious problems, it’s worth digging into other possibilities like overheating or a weak SATA controller. Just remember that modern HDDs can be quite sensitive!
You might just be having bad luck. Drives can fail at a rate of a few percent each year. It could also be worth checking that you only have one HDD in your build because having multiple drives can sometimes cause interference, especially if they aren't designed for heavy workloads. Don't forget to keep an eye on heat and the quality of your SATA cables too!
I only have one HDD, the other drive is an SSD with my OS.
