Why does Crimson Desert dim my lamp when I adjust settings?

I'm experiencing a puzzling issue where adjusting the settings in the game Crimson Desert causes my lamp to dim slightly in real life. To give you some background, my house was built in the 80s and has a cheap wall lamp with a 40-watt max above my desk. I recently upgraded my gaming setup, now featuring a Series X and a PC with a powerful new GPU and CPU, all connected to an APC Back-UPS for power stability.

After a clean install and loading up some demanding titles, I noticed everything was working great—except for Crimson Desert. While playing, there's no trouble, but whenever I change any settings, like the resolution or mouse acceleration, the lamp dims momentarily. This happens even when everything is connected to the UPS, which I thought would help manage the power draw. It's strange because it seems only this game causes the UPS to whine slightly, which I assume indicates an unusual power demand. I'm curious about what's going on here. Could it be wiring issues in my older house, or is the game unusually taxing on my system? Any advice would be appreciated!

It sounds like you're dealing with a voltage drop issue. When you have too many high-wattage items on a single circuit, it can lead to that dimming effect. My suggestion would be to unplug some of the non-essential devices and see if that alleviates the problem.

That's a good point! But why is it only happening with Crimson Desert? I mean, if other games run fine, could the game itself be pulling more power or doing something weird with the graphics settings?

Right? It's odd that it only does it during those specific adjustments. Seems like Crimson Desert somehow demands more from my PC than other games do.

You're probably drawing too many amps on that circuit. Try relocating some of your devices to another outlet or circuit. And if that's not doable, it might be wise to call an electrician. At least the circuit breaker should prevent any serious issues, but it's still something to keep an eye on.

Good idea! I plan to move the lamp and console to a different outlet while keeping the PC and monitors on the original one to see if it changes anything.
