I recently bought a 31.5 inch AOC 240Hz monitor (model 32G2WG8), but I'm having a frustrating issue. When I try to set it to 240Hz, it automatically defaults back to 60Hz. I've already tried changing settings on the monitor itself and in the Nvidia control panel, but nothing seems to work. The monitor came with a DisplayPort 1.2 cable, but I've read that I might need a 1.4 cable for 240Hz. If that's the case, why was a 1.2 cable included with the monitor? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like a cable issue—it’s common for monitors to come with cables that don't support all their features, especially high refresh rates. I recommend getting a DisplayPort cable that supports at least 1.4. In my experience, manufacturers sometimes use lower-spec cables to cut costs. Also, if the output works for a bit and then drops back to 60Hz, it could be the cable struggling with the bandwidth needed for 240Hz.

That's exactly what happened to me! My old cable could handle 165Hz but wasn’t stable, so I ended up capping my monitor to 144Hz. If you try capping it at 200Hz or even 230Hz in the Nvidia settings, it might help while you wait for a new cable.
