Why does my BIOS only recognize the boot drive with an extra SATA cable connected?

I'm facing a weird issue with my STG Auberon PC. There's a SATA data cable connected to my motherboard that isn't hooked up to anything else, and when I unplug it, the BIOS can't find my boot drive at all. But when I plug it back in, it finds the boot drive and boots into Windows just fine. This has me wondering what's going on. Could it be a problem with my PSU or is it more likely an issue with the motherboard? Any insights would be appreciated!

It sounds like your BIOS might be misconfigured. Have you checked to see if the boot order in the BIOS is prioritizing the right drive? Sometimes it could mistakenly set the empty cable connection as the primary boot device. Just make sure the boot drive is selected as the main one, as it could be trying to fall back on that default connection when it can't find the boot drive.

I get where you're coming from, but the BIOS doesn't even recognize if a cable is plugged in or not.
